Quote revisions in a 3D configurator: keep every agreement clear
Separate drafts, issued quotes and accepted orders in a Configurix workflow so price-list changes and product revisions stay traceable.

A customer asks for a different roof, your price list changes, or a salesperson reopens a saved design. These are three different events. If the workflow treats them as the same operation, it becomes difficult to know which specification and price the customer actually agreed to.
When planning a Configurix 3D configurator and CPQ implementation, define the behavior of new configurations, saved projects, issued quotes and accepted orders separately. A revision policy connects the visual design to a clear commercial record.
New configurations use the applicable current prices
Define which price list applies to the dealer, market and product family. Record its version alongside the calculated result. A newly created design should use that applicable commercial context rather than inherit an old rate accidentally.
Decide how delivery, installation, tax and optional services enter the quote. A product subtotal and a complete proposal are not always the same amount.
Reopening a saved project is not accepting a new price
A saved project can retain earlier selections while the catalog evolves. Specify whether reopening it shows its saved price, offers recalculation or requires review. Make any recalculation deliberate and visible to the salesperson.
If an old accessory is no longer sold, explain which item needs replacing. Do not silently substitute another item and leave the user believing that the original design is unchanged.
Issued quotes retain their commercial terms
A proposal already sent to a customer should preserve its specification, price, terms and revision identifier. Updating the working project or a price list should not overwrite that issued document. A changed offer needs a new revision and a clear explanation of what changed.
| Stage | Event to handle | Record to preserve |
|---|---|---|
| New configuration | Current product and price selection | Applied catalog and price version |
| Saved project | Reopen or deliberately recalculate | Earlier selections and change history |
| Issued quote | Change a proposed product or term | Original document and revised proposal |
| Accepted order | Request an amendment | Accepted baseline and approval decision |
Accepted orders need an amendment path
After acceptance, a different finish or dimension can affect procurement and production as well as the selling price. Define who reviews the request and how an approved amendment reaches the next team. Keep the original accepted order distinguishable from a pending change.
Configurix can connect configuration, quotes and project workflows. During implementation, agree the status transitions, permissions and document behavior your business requires rather than relying on an ambiguous “update every quote” promise.
Test the full revision journey
Create a design, save it, issue a quote and record acceptance. Then change a price list and request a product change. Check each stage separately: the new design's calculation, the saved project's review step, the issued PDF and the accepted order record.
Bring examples of your current quote revisions to a private Configurix demo. The custom CPQ workflow should make it easier to identify the latest working proposal without losing the agreement that came before it.
