What happens when site measurements change an online design?
Define how verified site measurements update a configurator project, quotation, technical review and factory handoff without losing the original request.
Table of contents
When verified site measurements differ from an online design, create a controlled revision rather than silently editing the earlier offer. Retain the customer's original request, identify the changed measurements and review the resulting product and commercial consequences. Online selection and site verification are separate stages of the same project.
Record the status of each measurement
A customer estimate, a salesperson's observation and a verified installation measurement do not have the same authority. Record where a value came from and who confirmed it. This helps the team understand why an earlier design changed.
Keep references clear. An overall opening width and a manufactured frame width may require a defined relationship. The software should implement that relationship only after the manufacturer supplies and approves it.
| Change record | Information to retain |
|---|---|
| Earlier value | Measurement, unit and source |
| Confirmed value | New measurement and verifier |
| Product consequence | Changed model, option or review requirement |
| Commercial consequence | Revised scope and price status |
| Approval | Responsible person and accepted revision |
Test a change crossing a product boundary
Use a design that is valid at the estimated size but requires a different arrangement after measurement. Check the selected accessories, price, documents and technical-review status. The system should not simply stretch a rendering beyond the manufacturer's permitted range.
If no supported arrangement fits, retain the project for review. Your salesperson needs a useful conversation with the customer, not a lost configuration or an unexplained error.
Control the installation handoff
Identify which measurements and approvals must be complete before an installation is scheduled or a factory request is sent. A calendar booking should refer to the accepted scope and current configuration, with any remaining prerequisites visible.
When the customer approves the revised offer, keep the earlier version accessible under the agreed permissions. It may be needed to explain a scope change or answer a later question.
Connect the stages in Configurix
A Configurix installer workflow can connect initial selection, measurement review and commercial follow-up. Specify the records and transitions your business needs. Confirm any scheduling or factory integration as an explicit deliverable rather than assuming it is included.
Should customers be prevented from entering approximate sizes?
Not necessarily. Approximate sizes can support an early discussion when clearly identified. Define when verified measurements become necessary for the next commitment.
Can the software approve structural suitability from dimensions alone?
Do not assume that it can. Define the manufacturer's permitted catalogue rules and the separate technical or site reviews your process requires.
